MCTKD was founded in 2005 by Jim Johnson and Brandon Edwards. Later they were joined by
classmate JT Sharp after his Army service tour in Iraq as a Combat MP was complete. They are
members of the Traditional Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan Association (TTCA) and their students
are tested by Grandmaster Young Sik Choi, 9th Degree Black Belt and President of the TTCA.
They teach students both young and old the art of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Their goal is to
instill respect, pride and self discipline to all who wish to learn.
The Hisory Of Chung Do Kwan
Tae Kwon Do
Chung Do Kwan or Blue Wave School is one of the original styles of Tae Kwon Do. The Chung Do
Kwan was the first Martial Arts school to open in South Korea during the Japanese occupation that
ended at the
after World War II. The school was opened in 1944 by Great Grandmaster Won Kuk
Lee. Great Grandmaster Lee was trained in the ancient Korean art of Tae Kyon. He also traveled the
Orient learning what he could from different styles. During the Occupation, GGM Lee studied Law
in Tokyo. During that time, he studied Shotokan Karate from the styles founder Master Gichin
Funakoshi. With this expanded knowledge, GGM Lee opened his school with a strong emphasis
on traditional training including basics, balance, stances, pressure point attacks, training  to
preform hard strikes and kicks through full power practice and hand and feet conditioning, and
hard physical training just as it was trained when it was life and death combat.
In the 1950's, teachers from the different schools in Korea held a meeting to give a common name
to their many different styles, just as Karate was used as a common term that described many
styles in Japan. It was on that day that the name Tae Kwon Do was given. Tae Kwon Do translation
is as follows: Tae = to jump, kick, or smash with the foot, Kwon = To punch or strike with the hand,
and Do = way of Life or art. A simple translation is
"The Art of Kicking an Punching".
It was at the Chung Do Kwan that our Grandmaster, Grandmaster Young Sik Choi, trained in the
Martial Arts. It is our goal to live up to Great Grandmaster Lee's dream of a traditional style school
that teaches all aspects of Martial Arts, not just the physical like many "sport styles" do today.
